Some pictures of the refurbished drill

It's noticably better than the Mancuna; the castings are better quality (smoother, fewer cavities), the machining is better. The main drilling shaft is a single piece, supported in 3 places and runs much truer than the 2 piece Mancuna one, which is held in by a pinch bolt. I suspect that the Mancuna is somewhat older and hence there is a couple of decades of improvements in materials and manufacturing between them.

This one also has a nice heavy flywheel which makes drilling easier. The drive mechanism seems to work well, it occasionally skips a tooth on the ratchet (some of them are a bit warn) but that's all. The only downside of it is that if you run the feed down too low, it can be a bit fiddly to get at the pawl to lift it off so that you can wind it back up - the big handle on top gets in the way.

Now it's got to earn its keep on my workbench.
